It is sharp and lightweight. I use it to clip my hedge and cut back weeds and other unwanted plants.

I am used to the normal American hedge shears that I get at the local Garden Store. My old shears are about 12 years old and have seen better days. It was time to get a new pair of shears, so I got this one. When I got this pair of shears delivered, I noticed immediately that they are smaller by a few inches, than My old pair of shears. The blades are also a bit more narrow too.
But, these shears are much sharper than my old pair and they also have a much smoother cut since the blades are perfectly straight and well put together. I used these to trim all 8 of my hedges and I used a lot less energy with these lighter, smaller, and sharper shears. Even though they are not as big as my last pair, they actually saved me about 20 minutes of time overall. These are a great pair of hedge shears.

Broke added 30 minutes of use, and stickers pealed finished off when removed. Low quality.

These shears are light weight and handle nicely. I was able to trim my hedge very quickly and neatly. They made a very satisfying “snip” when I used them. I would rate them better than any I have ever owned.

I did not get this shear for free :(. But I still want to say thank you for making such a wonderful tool. I took it out yesterday after work to try. I ended up trimming the whole 25ft long hedge without taking a break. And for the first time I actually enjoyed trimming my hedge! I am thinking about getting another one just in case something happens to this one.

I’m a professional horticulturist- working at a major public garden, as well as have an aesthetic pruning business. I’m super picky about my equipment and rarely try new things. This popped up on Vine and the only reason I picked it up is because it is made in Japan. If you prune or garden, you know that means a diligent quality on tools that is seldom with other brands. You get what you pay for and good tools are an investment.
I also rarely give 5 stars check my other reviews.
I used these on our four boxwoods and although I prefer the long handled Okatsune for the fact it extends my reach and I have to move less and bend less to shape a hedge or single plant. I never felt the need for short handled shears.
When I prune I shear, shape, shake/ ruffle up the plant and shear any stragglers. I’m doing this you get a clean and even look. Once that’s done I go back and selectively plunge prune with hand pruners. In using these I found they actually can fit into my usable tool bag persay in that they allow me to prune in right spaces when the long handled shears get a bit awkward and force odd angles of my body or arms because of surrounding plants. These I was able to use right up against my body and it was pleasant and efficient. Additionally I was able to shape and then plunge prune with these as the shorter handle has more precise aim. I still had to go in with hand pruners but it didn’t take nearly as long.
Build quality is impeccable as usual. Nice fit and finish on the handles with a high gloss that allows good grip with gloves or bare hands. The bolt holding the blades together is tight and smooth. Edge has a nice angle that is blunter than most, so it doesn’t dull as easily and can cut larger branches. I wouldn’t go pencil sized but I cut some fairly large boxwood branches with no issue and no dulling.
So this is great. I’m adding it to the approved list.

Yes it is sharp, no it doesn’t cut very well. I am not sure why, but this tool struggles with anything over an inch thick. If you using it for any shrubs or branches less than an inch thick, you will be happy. Otherwise, I recommend purchasing something that is heavy duty.

The handcrafted quality by Japanese artisans shines through, offering a touch of heritage in every snip. The fine materials and commitment to quality are evident, making these shears a trusted tool among garden experts. The high-quality Japanese steel delivers clean, precise cuts, enhancing my gardening efficiency. The ergonomic oak wood handle ensures comfort and reduces fatigue, allowing me to enjoy my gardening tasks longer. I like this tool; it’s beneficial and has helped my garden immensely.

It is great! Sharp, fitting, not heavy, very useful. Strongly recommend this for everyone.

Love this pair of shears as they are light weight and easier for a woman’s hand. I use them to shape my boxwood balls. Small enough to get all angles of the ball. Blades are very sharp!
