The desk is super easy to put together. Slides for the drawers are already done and screwed to the wood pieces so they all closed perfectly when complete. Love the style and look. Only complaint would be the few dents throughout which may be from shipping. Still very pleased with purchase. Large size perfect for home office

The assembly took a little while because it was all manual due the the hardware that was included. Not much could be assembled using power drills other than the screws for the handles and a few braces. All other joints were fixed with the pressure fitting requiring a screwdriver and your hand strength. That is why it took longer than most other furniture assembly. Otherwise, the desk looks great and it fits my space perfectly. I liked the furniture so much that I got the matching bookcase.

I love my desk! It’s large and very sturdy— also VERY heavy. I did not have any issues with the drawers not going in properly. I think that may have something to do with how you’re putting it together, because WHEW it was truly awful to assemble. My husband and I spent a couple days on it. The instructions were terrible, but through some trial and error it’s together and it’s wonderful!

Desk took a bit to put together alone however, easy directions & mission accomplished. Love it..sturdy & classy. I have 3 other pieces to match desk in my new office. On another note, I received a piece damaged in transit & Sauder Customer Service had the replacement piece out to me pronto! Impressed with this great customer service! Thank you.

For $169 this is an absolutely fabulous desk. Assembly was very simple and instructions were absolutely spot on. Yes, it took a couple hours to assemble, but that is why it is solid as a rock when complete. Most of the negative reviews just make me chuckle, people just don’t read or follow instructions and expect it to turn out properly!! One even posted a photo of a drawer they said didn’t fit………..they had the front on upside down!!!! Another complained they were expecting actual hardwood and not pressed chipboard, for $169 dollars???? Really??? A desk of this quality built from solid hardwood would cost you in the neighborhood of $1500 -2000. Others complained the instructions were hard to follow or parts were not labeled. Not true. I followed the instructions word for word and step for step and everything went together perfectly on the first try. Every part that needed to be was labeled correctly and assembly was a snap. You won’t find a better quality desk for this price anywhere!

I have put together dozens of pieces of furniture, and I figured this one would be the most difficult because of all the drawers. It took me awhile, but, hands down, the best instructions ever –thorough, great drawings (and videos!) and concise. Step by step and everything was beautifully packed, engneered and labled right down to the smallest screws . I always completely unpack the piecces, make sure everything is there, take a look at all the hardware, then briefly read through the instructions. Went like clock work, all by myself (but did need my husband to help place the top). Please note that the drawers will probably need adjustment once they’re in their box, but that is explained too, right at the end. Writing instructions is an unsung talent and I so appreciated these (and the fact that I only needed one Phillips head screw driver for he entire task. ) The end result is a beautiful and sturdy piece of furniture. I will purchase Sauder pieces again because, in addition to the aforementioned, I also appreciate their construction ethics.

Overall, I am very happy with this desk. It’s exactly what I was looking for for my home office and it fulfills my needs.
PROS
– Assembly – Despite what the other reviewers say, it was actually very easy to assemble, with all parts labeled correctly and easy-to-follow instructions. However, it was rather time-consuming — which is fine if you’re someone like me who enjoys building things!
– Sturdiness – The desk is surprisingly very sturdy. I purchased another piece of Sauder furniture a year back, and it absolutely did not measure up to this desk.
– Appearance – I truly do love the way that it looks. Sure, it’s not super high-quality, but it gets the job done (and you can spruce it up!).
CONS
– Small Top Drawers – I was VERY disappointed to get to the FINAL step, inserting the assembled drawers, to find that the two small top drawers did not fit. I am a pro at assembling/building things, so I know to never over-tighten anything, and yet, still, the drawers didn’t fit. Fortunately, I was able to store some of my book collection in the nooks, and I actually like it better than the drawers!
– Large Bottom Drawers – It’s important to note that the large drawers haaardly fit either, I really had to shove them in there, and they don’t glide in/out easily. Luckily, they are usable for my storage needs. Make sure that you look up the dimensions of the large drawers as they are NOT the normal file cabinet dimensions (normal-sized files fit when placed in vertically, but not horizontally).
– Packaging / Imperfections – The outer box of the package I received was in fairly good condition, but upon opening it, I saw that there were no protective barriers around/between the desk parts (huge no-no). Due to this, there were a number of scratches and chips — I had to use Gorilla Glue to fix two of the drawer slides that had completely broken off.
– Shipping – Know that this doesn’t pertain to the desk itself, but given that it’s a large package that can require a scheduled delivery (pending the carrier), it may be helpful to know that the shipping process was an absolute nightmare. I scheduled deliveries 3 separate times through one carrier, and the package never arrived. It took a week of back-and-forth, 6 long calls with Amazon Support and 4 support requests directly to the carrier to finally find out that the desk was “lost in transit” — they sent me a new desk via USPS (thankfully), and it arrived very quickly thereafter.
All in all, I do recommend purchasing this desk, however, I think it’s important for buyers to be aware of the potential issues. Of course, this isn’t a $750+ desk, so you shouldn’t expect perfection — if you can find creative workarounds, this will likely work for you, as it did for me! Also, highly recommend paying for the furniture protection insurance (just in case).

This is a very substantial, solid desk. I needed something with no middle drawer for my heavy duty sewing machine that was strong and wouldn’t wobble, even with the movement of the machine and my hands. This fits the bill. I was a little worried about the material as I didn’t want cheap fake wood that would warp and give, but this is almost more substantial than hardwood. The surface looks like real woodgrain. I went with the chalked chestnut which turned out to be a warm grey with whitewash look – very pretty. Looks great in my sewing room. It’s a very heavy, solid piece of furniture.
The assembly was a challenge. It took my partner just over 5 hours to assemble, and he is “handy”. The directions are very good and very clear, though. Totally doable, just make sure to have a free afternoon to do it and two people for the desktop.
It’s not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Worth every penny.

My wife has a beautiful, solid, useful desk in her office. What they don’t tell you is that you need three men and a strong boy to assemble it. The step where a 40-pound table top will be lowered to the lower assembly with myriad dowels and cog keys is a beaut.
