Worst assembly design I have ever met. This is my second experience with Sauder – and I put a mental note – "never ever"
1. First – this desk is made of something which is called engineered wood and some pieces are just very dense carton. It means that once this thing is assembled – you cannot disassemble it – it will fall apart. It also is very very heavy. The plastic veneer looks like wood ok, but it can be scratched by a fingernail.
2. There are about two hundred pieces of various screws – something around 12 types of different ones. It looks like different desk parts were designed by a separate team of engineers who used their own supply of screws. Initial steps are very time-consuming – you constantly changing the bits for automatic screwdriver drill.
3. The actual pieces of the desk were not labeled – only the biggest ones had labels – however, there are around 50 pieces, not counting the drawers. So I had to figure out everything myself. I admit that some of the labels just fell off the pieces but half of the wooden parts were not labelled at all.
4. It took me around 14 h to assemble the whole thing during the weekend and I consider myself a relatively skilled person. Half of the screws are located in such way, that can be done only manually, so that screwdriver drill cannot be used. So, bear in mind that it would require a lot of relatively tedious work and strong hands.
5. The last step of the assembly of the two big parts of L-shape requires space – at least 10 feet wide – you will not be able to do it in the confined corner. You also need two people to lift two big final parts upside down after you assemble them.
6. The table top holes of the wires and cables were designed a long time ago. They are small, so the DVI cables for the display cannot be pushed through.
The last and not least – a couple of steps in the instruction are just given wrong.
So, I would recommend it to the people who like challenges and a lot of tedious work for a very small benefit.

Now that the desk is together, I can appreciate it and say that the desk is nice, study and worth the price. The three star review is because everything else about this purchase was a pain.
First of all, Amazon said that because this was a heavy and large purchase we were to select a delivery time and option. Knowing the progress of our home remodel, we chose a date of May 28 to give our contractors time to finish the one room so this room could be cleaned out first. Imagine our surprise when I receive not a shipping notice, but a “your product will be delivered today” notice from Amazon an entire week earlier than the date requested. And then, it wasn’t even delivered by special delivery—it came via ups and the box was completely open on one corner with those pieces visibly marred. The second box had been jostled so much that the pieces had come loose from the foam packaging and were jostling around inside. And the boxes were heavy—I know our ups guy is alone—I have no idea how he got them onto our porch.
Amazon did give me partial refund to keep the desk, but I was so worried to put it together.
That is where part two of the saga comes in. I have other Sauder in our house. Everything was well marked and easy to put together. This, however, was neither. Half of the pieces were not marked and it took my husband and I nearly 5 hours to assemble—and we are handy people. It want difficult—we just wasted so much time trying to determine what part was what.
Now that it is in, I like it and it looks great—(the damaged pieces are in the back corner so as long as we keep the desk in a corner you can’t see them).

I do online product reviews and I wanted an L-shaped desk to use one side for reviews and the other side for normal use. This desk is perfect for me. It is very heavy and well designed and also very time consuming. It took me about 7 hours spread over 2 days but the end result is well worth the time. Make sure to follow the instructions step by step and you’ll be fine. I am extremely happy with it and will definitely do more business with Sauder in the future.

For the most part it is a nice sturdy deck. Instructions I give it a 3 out of 5. I’ve assembled several different peace’s over the last year and this one was the most difficult. Some part #’s were difficult to find, but I did figured it out. The sizes and names of the hardware were there but difficult to find. There were in side of the plastic pouches under the fasteners. (Stupid, should have been labeled on top and visible). There was one damaged piece of wood, a corner and someone tried to glue it together. Also one broken connector piece. So that piece is missing on the unit. If I can find one I’ll add it later. ( bad quality control)!! Took me roughly 12 hours to assemble.
If I were to do it again, I probably would buy it again. Now I know how to assemble and it would go faster. Heavy desk!!!

I looked at so many desks out on the market. This desk is wonderful in 2 major ways that other desks are very deceiving:
1. This desk’s main section is 30″ deep which is so necessary to accommodate a standard flat screen monitor/laptop and keyboard. Most other desks at/close to this price point look really great in pictures, but what you don’t know is that many are too shallow to actually serve as quality, comfortable desks. Many are 21″ or 22″, some are even 19″, which is way way too shallow for comfort.
2. This desk has a REAL LAMINATE top that’s very durable. Many other desks at this price point are so misleading and are what is now known as a photo finish, but list themselves as laminate, which most folks picture as similar to Formica laminate. Photo finish is literally a printed picture on paper that is glued on. This can be easily ripped and nicked and any moisture literally destroys the finish.
Other pros include:
1. Great height. I actually had to raise my seat a bit to be comfortable. Other desk reviews show clashing with arm rests or pinching on the tops of peoples’ legs when moved in.
2. The color is awesome.
3. There a many drawers, a keyboard drawer and a bunch of smaller drawers.
4. There are reliefs at the bottom and several cable holes that make wire management really great.
5. A very nice product for the cost.
Drawbacks are as other reviews state.
1. The boxes are heavy when delivered. I had to make a make-shift lifting strap from ratchet strap to hoist it up and move into my house. Or you’ll need a friends/spouses help for sure.
2. The assembly is not for the faint of heart. I think the number of pieces really speaks to the quality versus of other desks in this category, but man there are a lot of parts and steps. I am very proficient at DIY assembly furniture and this was desk took the most effort of any I’ve ever done. Still 5 stars because I knew this when ordering, but it was a lot. Probably every bit of 5 hours.
3. Some pieces are photo finished, but these pieces are really not prominent and you’ll never notice it. The lower plinths are which may get nicked up when vacuuming, but very tolerable for the value.
All in all, super happy with this desk and would definitely buy again.

This desk is very nice. It is sturdy and heavy. I love the way that it looks. But be warned: It is a beast to put together. It took three people, three days to put together. And don’t even try to move it when it’s done – it is incredibly heavy.

On a scale of 1 to 10, this would get an 8.5. I am a scale model builder as a hobby and this reminds me of one of those kits albeit at a 1:1 scale. There are about 50 steps to build the desk. So here are my thoughts:
The Good:
1. All you need is a hammer and a good Phillips head screwdriver. Match the bit size to the drawing in the instructions and you will be fine.
2. The pieces arrived in a very secure package and there was no damage.
3. The screws and other hardware were in a separate large "sheet" with each screw type labeled in it’s own section. I had some extras which is not a bad thing.
4. For as many parts as there are, and as big as it is, the fit is very good with one exception which I have noted in the Bad section.
The OK:
1. This will take some time. I did it by myself and it took about 8 to 10 hours. I took some breaks so my time is somewhere between 8 and 10.
2. You need at least a 10 x 10 area to assemble. You need some room to maneuver the two sections around once you get them assembled and ready to mate the two section.
3. There is a LOT of turning and twisting all those screws and locking pieces. Patience is required.
4. One person can do it if you plan on how to stand up the sections on their ends and then "tip" them over. Again, patience and planning are the key.
5. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND using furniture slides. I used 8 of them around the edges and the desk slides pretty easily. This makes getting the two sections pretty close for final mating and then getting it into your final position really easy.
6. Some of the areas where you are forced to twist the locking pieces can get congested. Use the smallest screwdriver you can. You do NOT need a power drill. In fact, I don’t think you could use a power drill for all of it as it would be too hard to maneuver in some of the tight places.
7. You may need to adjust the drawer slides if the drawers hit each other. I had one drawer that was binding on the one beneath it, and adjusting the slides on the side made all the difference. Again, patience is needed.
The Bad:
1. The plastic corner pieces that align the sides of the drawers to the front of the drawers were not labeled as in the instructions. They turned out to be the same pieces, but you must figure out which piece goes in which drawer as one drawer needs the pieces without the caps. Since the numbers don’t match, you have to visually figure it out or else you will have to start over on that drawer.
2. The two sections are attached under the desk in the back corner with two screws which you place in the pre-drilled holes in the front-most vanity panel. Getting those holes to line up with the holes with the vanity panel from the second section is virtually impossible. You are crunched down under the sections trying to line up those holes. The wood is soft enough that you can get the two pieces to "attach", but I am not sure I got them aligned.
3. This is my biggest complaint about the desk. The two sections line up but the fit is not square. It is really good on the horizontal plane, but vertically there is a "bump". Kind of like two sections of a side walk that join together. There isn’t really a gap, but a ridge between the two. Not a huge deal, but you can clearly see there are two sections joined together. You cannot confuse it for a single piece desktop. Now there is a plate underneath where the two sections are screwed together but it is too small to eliminate the ridge.
4. The cable holes in the desktop (2 of them) are too small to be of much use. They will allow for a couple of small USB -type cables for a mouse and keyboard, but HDMI and Display Port cable ends won’t fit through.
The Unknown:
1. I have no idea how this will disassemble to travel if I move. I think the two sections will be easily separated, but there are quite large and if you have a small doorway, it could be tricky.
Summary:
A nice piece for the price considering what you would pay for a solid wood desk. I think it is a bit unfair when folks are saying it is not sold "solid" wood. I did not think it was marketed as such, so I cannot fault anyone.

This is a great desk. It is a pretty color. Well built. Was missing a few screws but had some to replace the missing ones. Instructions are clear. Packaging was fine. There was a couple spots that were a little damaged but nothing that is not hidden. It does take awhile to put together but it is a great purchase. I would recommend it.

After a thorough search for the perfect home office upgrade, I settled on this executive desk from Amazon, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. The assembly process, while challenging, was a rewarding DIY project for me (52 yo female) with lots of experience in building and assembling furniture. It took about 6-7 hours to complete the assembly alone, and I did need help flipping it over. Despite eight pieces being unlabeled, including a crucial piece from Step 1, the clear and detailed instructions provided a roadmap to success. It’s imperative to lay out all pieces beforehand and closely examine each diagram, especially when assembling the drawers. The slides are numbered 1-4 and might appear upside down, but fear not, that’s intentional. Additionally, watch for the wood pieces at the bottom of the uprights; they are unlabeled and are easy to miss, but are crucial for securing the desk properly. The materials exceeded my expectations, with a nicely laminated surface that adds a touch of elegance to my office space. The pre-drilled holes aligned perfectly, and the package arrived without any damaged parts, which is always a relief. The design and functionality of the desk are top-notch. While I would have appreciated a wider pencil drawer, the keyboard drawer and other storage compartments are thoughtfully designed. The bottom drawer is spacious enough for either letter or legal-sized files, which is a major plus. Moreover, the desk’s cord management system is great, allowing me to keep all wires neatly tucked away. The desk arrived in two well-packaged boxes, and I recommend inspecting for any potential shipping damage upon delivery (I did have to reorder this because the shipper sent the first back due to visible damage). Considering the quality, aesthetics, and functionality, this desk represents a significant value, costing less than half what a comparable, fully-assembled desk would have sold for.In conclusion, I am over the moon with my new executive desk. It not only looks stunning in my space but is also highly functional for my daily needs. The assembly process, while not for the faint of heart, was well worth the effort. My advice to potential buyers is to take your time with the assembly and to thoroughly review each step before proceeding. I am delighted with how it transformed my space, and while I hope I never have to move it, I am thrilled with the result.
