Wow, I expected mediocre fit, almost-matching holes, missing hardware, and frustrating instructions. I was amazed to find perfect fit, exact matching fastener holes, all hardware in the right number and size, and perfectly illustrated instuctions in good English. It is a lot of work to put this desk together, but very gratifying to put each piece in place with such good fit. IT IS HEAVY, so have a friend available at times. And BTW, the packaging was robust, and both arrived in perfect condition. Result: a beautiful piece of work.

bought this desk to replace an older desk and better match the kitchen. the pros are that it’s pretty sturdy and works well for normal everyday use like work from home or using the computer. it’s also not humongous either or super tall. cons would be that it takes a good minute to put together. like you can definitely follow the instructions but there are a lot of them LOL. we were able to put it together but it took some time for sure. overall 5 stars for the price.

also, wouldn’t use water based products to clean this off.. just a dust rag maybe.

The quality is amazing! Very heavy and sturdy. I could probably stand and jump on it without fear of it falling apart. It’s extremely spacious and has help me get organized. There’s a place for everything and everything now has its place. Like the other reviews, it did take a long time to put together. I worked alone and it took me 7 hours by myself. But the instructions were extremely simple to read and has detailed pictures. This is definitely one of those pieces that will last for many many years. This desk is in my bedroom but I think it would have looked great in the living room or dining room. It’s just a beautiful piece of furniture that works great in any space. One of my favorite purchases on Amazon. Quality is amazing and well worth the money.

Tool me about 4 hours to assemble… instructions were easy to follow, all parts accounted for. I would have gave it a 5, but there was a scratch on the desk top. My wife’s computer covers it, and by the time I saw it I was too far along in the assembly process… but the wife is super happy with her X-mas present

Let me start with the instructions… first off, they’re entertaining and they break the monotony of the build. The humor was appreciated. The top rail was dinged up a bit, and the innards of the drawers are a different color, which I found odd, but since they’re hidden, it’s not a huge deal. I only had the help (very little help) of my 10 year old daughter, so over the course of 2 days, it took 7 hours total for me to put this together. If I’d been smart and started it on the weekend, I probably could’ve knocked it out in 5, but I decided to work on the build after working 8 hours each of the two days. I’ll know better for the next project I suppose. I give it 4 stars because it really is a huge pain in the you-know-what to put together. The instructions are very clear, but you do need a little common sense to tell you to look at the pictures and match the pieces, since some of the pieces didn’t have numbers or letters on them. So, when it says to use A, there’s no marking or sticker on “A”, so you have to match the picture to it.

Good assembling instruction, easy to follow pictures and convenient packaging of screws and such. One person could assemble it however it needs two people to lift it up and move around closer to the end of the assembling and after it’s done because it’s heavy. So far looks sturdy however one needs to be careful because it is made of some kind of pressed crumbles of wood which in raw corners could be fragile and crumble. Don’t apply strength when assembling the drawers, it has slots and special cavities that are easily get together when put in the correct angles but with strength could break. The bottoms of the drawers look sturdy. Love the perforated spot on the back of the shelved section in case one wants to place a processor there and needs ventilation (we love it!). It was difficult to find all the holes in the center (where the shelves are, vertically and horizontally) to nail the back panel to the frame so we just eyeballed them. In general, so far we’re happy with the purchase. The quality and the price are all good. I hope it will serve us for several years.

    Quality Matters

This is a beautiful and very sturdy desk that is just what I wanted. The color (I got salt oak) is also true to the photos. It is perfect for my daughter to use for her schoolwork. Love the many hutch compartments and the pull out portion for the keyboard.

Overall, the instructions were very detailed and easy to follow, including both written directions and pictures that made it clear which way to orient the pieces.

Just wanted to give some pieces of advice that may help others when putting this together.
    1. The desk arrives in 2 boxes. (We only received one at first and had to contact Amazon to resend the second one.)
    2. It took my husband and I about 7 hours (with a few short breaks) to assemble the whole desk.
    3. The desk is put together upside down/sideways and then needs to be flipped, so you really need a lot of space to work.
    4. We had a little trouble getting the drawers to sit properly because they fit too high in the desk. We ended up unscrewing and re-doing the rails to fix this, but then 2 pages later in the manual it explained an easier fix for this involving the cam screws. It would have been more helpful if this explanation had been provided on the same page where drawer installation was discussed.

Overall a great desk and you won’t regret this purchase!

This desk-hutch is beautiful! Nice and room making organization possible. I am really happy with this purchase.
Assembly is hard to rate because it is somewhat complicated. The directions are written with fun notes on the side encouraging time to take breaks, grab a snack or drink – encouraging “pace yourself and don’t over do it. I didn’t! It took me a long time to assemble (one day) but I chose to not rush but work steadily on this desk. Carefully, read through the instructions. Though I did this, if I assembled again, I would follow exactly the instructions given except for when to put the back panel on. I could be wrong about this theory but I would put the backing on the hutch first, then proceed to assemble the lower portion. I threw out packaging before assembling. Still, my theory to put the backing first on the hutch, makes the assembly easier.
Other slight problems, keyboard drawer doesn’t slide in smoothly without hitting into the second screw on the left side of the rails because it sticks out enough that the drawer doesn’t slide in completely but protrudes into the track causing the keyboard holder to stand out about 3-inches.
My hands hurt from tightening so many screws because of the elbow grease you put into really tightening the screws.
I am happy with this purchase and would recommend any buyer.

I just completed assembly of the Sauder Harbor view hutch. The parts are very well made, almost like real wood. All of the pre drilled holes are exactly where they should be. Here are a few suggestions to make assembly a little easier. First, there are just under a million hardware pieces( well maybe not a million, it just seems like it). I would suggest using a muffin pan with lots of muffin holes to separate all of the different size screws and other hardware that are all bagged together. There are NO EXTRA screws so you must use exactly the ones in the instructions for each assembly step! Follow the steps paying close attention to which part you are working on. I used yellow sticky notes to label each part since the stamped letters on the sides were hard to read. The desk comes in two very heavy boxes and the FEDEX guy would not bring them into the house. You will need help! You will also need help setting the hutch upright and putting the desk in place. Assembled it is very heavy, especially for old farts to wrestle with. The instructions are well written and illustrated and include a little humor. I think the finished product looks very professional and has lots of pukas for stuff.
