Description

The GEARWRENCH original ratcheting wrenches combine the speed of a ratchet with the access and control of a wrench. They offer the ease of 5 degrees of movement to turn fasteners, versus 30 degrees on standard combination wrenches. The small Ratcheting box end Head design enables access to tight spots where a ratchet won’t fit. The open end allows for easier access on tough to reach spots, making jobs go faster and easier. This set is a great addition to any mechanic tools collection. Set Contents – SAE sizes: 1/4, 5/16, 11/32, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16 and 3/4 in, Includes metric sizes: 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 millimeter.

I read a review that complained about it being off-center. The ratcheting end is not off from side to side, but it is off from “bow to stern” this is by design to have room for the ratchet pawl.

My issue with it is that the open end should be facing the other direction. If I want to switch from open end to box end, not only do I need to flip the wrench end over end, I also need to rotate it in my hand 180 degrees. Not a big deal, but they could have designed it the other way. As I get older, my manual dexterity isn’t as good as it used to be and I drop things. I could see this happen when I try to rotate the wrench in my hand. Perhaps the Chinese got it wrong when they read the directions to manufacture these. They invent new words such as “counterwisely.” Yes, I understand that they intended me to turn something in a counter clockwise direction, but you would think that in a country with a billion people in it someone could write an instruction manual. Maybe I should learn Chinese.

The ratchet is loose. I own Gearwrench ratchets and they are spectacular. Too sloppy for this brand. I expected more. The feel weak, but you never know how something is until you break it. I no longer live in the “rust belt,” so rusted and stuck fasteners are rare. If I needed to break loose a stuck fastener, this wrench would be last resort. I think it would break too easily. An abused adjustable wrench with the jaws spread more at the end than near the base is in a close second to the last choice. I will never put too much torque on these. I will use a regular box end wrench for the high torque jobs. I am retired and do not work at a fast pace any more, so I have the time to grab the correct tool for the job. These will be used when there isn’t room for anything else and not for anything else. They will last a long time used in this way.

These do not have reversing levers. There are pros and cons about this design. The direction lever sometimes get in the way and the wrench is thicker.

As always, use the right tool for the job.

Quality GearWrench set. I use them pretty heavily and they work as advertised. Plus GearWrench is a great company. Very useful for new technicians that do not have the money to spend on the bigger name brands off the tool trucks. Solid product.

The products you love. Gearwrench. Great wrenches, love the size ranges. Ratcheting mechanism is pretty tough, I’ve put them through the test already. Get this set!

I bought this set during a prime day for my dad and I. We always do our own work on vehicles and being we both have our own semis means you can’t ever not have enough tools so far they’ve been super. The gears are tough we’ve had a 4 foot breaker bar on one to bust bolts loose (more then once) so if they break it’s on us not the company. Definitely will be buying another set or at least the missing sizes being the only down fall is they don’t go through with all the sizes 1-2 is missing and we all know it’s going to be the one you need out on the road stranded. Also nothing against the wrenches but it didn’t come with a case or anything so you’ll have to get your own or just throw em in a tool bag like I did. Hopefully you’ll get as munch use out of these tool as I have.

Okay so I was very skeptical about this brand which I believe is a Chinese manufacturer. Craftsmen was sold off from Sears to Lowes. I’m a lifetime craftsmen customer. However, the prices of craftsmen have gone up significantly but I needed these wrenches to change shocks on my Honda Fit. Shocks are a pain if you don’t have the correct tools. I had to use an Allen key socket on a ratchet along with a 14mm closed wrench end. The problem is the job would have taken forever having to lift and set, lift and set, the box wrench to remove the nut on the shock. This set with its boxed ratchet end made it simple and comfortable. I have to admit, these feel and work like quality tools I always expected from craftsman. Now craftsmen have the direction change leaver. These you have to turn around to switch direction which is fine. The ratchet is smooth, the sound leads you to believe its quality, and feels accurate with each click. Indeed I would recommend these after using them on my wife’s 2012 Honda Fit, rear shocks. Great value compared to others. Again I did my research and this Chinese manufacturer always came out on top on Youtube and now I know why. Only time will tell how long these will last but I can say, chances are, a life time.
