I wanted a small tablet to serve effectively as a larger version of my phone for evening couch/lounging browsing, reading, social media, and regular app use. I’m not a gamer and am not intending to do compute-intensive work on this device so I have no need for a high-powered tablet but I did want a device that performs well (little to no lag when opening, using, or moving between apps).
I had considered picking up an iPad Mini because of its easy-to-hold-in-one-hand screen size (8.3″) and Apple’s tablets are generally considered best in class. However, the entry price of $500 (64G version) for a secondary service device is a pretty steep price tag and the impressive power of that device is considerable overkill for my needs. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 was much closer to what I was really looking for. The screen is a bit larger than the Mini at 8.7″ but the resolution is much lower (1340 x 800 px versus the Mini’s whopping 2266 x1488 px Liquid Retina Display which, taking into account screen size puts the Tab 9 at 179 pixels per inch versus the Mini’s super dense 326 ppi). Notwithstanding this rather large difference, the Tab 9’s screen is perfectly acceptable for what I need (reading articles in the NY Times app or watching YouTube videos for example is just fine). If you’re a gamer or intend to do digital art, this is not the tablet for you.
Screen color saturation and contrast are quite good and I only needed to dial the screen brightness up to about 40-50% for it to be comfortably bright (indoors; expect to crank it to ~100% outdoors). As you might expect, audio is just okay (loud enough at 70%-80% max) but isn’t exactly going to rattle your rib cage with deep bass or shatter your eardrums with piercing high notes. The Tab 9 includes a headphone jack so I tested a music video with a pair of Apple EarPods and the sound was very good.
I haven’t tested the cameras but I understand from my research that they aren’t great. That’s not an issue for me since I rarely ever use cameras on my mobile devices and will likely not do so much with the Tab 9.
The Tab 9 is very well constructed with a primarily metal body that looks and feels premium. In the Tab 9’s box is the tablet, a USB-C to USB-C cable, a SIM/SD card slot opener tool, and a user guide (which actually has no useful instructions in any of the provided languages). I was pleasantly surprised to see that a USB-C adapter was separately included in the plastic bag containing the Tab 9 box (the black plug in the pictures). The product description does indicate that this is a “15W Wall Charger Bundle” but sometimes on Amazon products what is described isn’t exactly what is delivered. This (non-Samsung) adapter isn’t going to give you the super-speedy charging of a 30W wall charger but it’s really great that this is included in the package since most of us typically have a pile of USB-A port chargers and they only work with a USB-A to USB-C cable. My Tab 9 shipped with about 50% battery charge. After set up, app installation, and software updates, my tablet dropped to 27% remaining charge. I plugged it in for 1 hour which increased the charge to 79% and another 30 minutes pushed it past 90%. Pretty acceptable.
I want to reiterate what several other reviewers indicated about this International Version device. My Tab 9 was for the Middle Eastern market (some of the descriptive text on the sticker on the back of the box appeared to be Arabic). This is NOT a problem. The usual set up welcome screens are in English. When asked for your language, English (US) is one of the many available language options as per the usual set up behavior. The next step (indicate location) showed a list of only Middle Eastern countries. Here, you simply select any one of the countries listed (I chose the UAE even though I’m in the US). Beyond that, the remainder of the set up process is exactly what you experience when setting up a US Google device (even the time will be your local time, however, you may want to change the weather widget default setting from Celsius to Fahrenheit given that most Americans still don’t understand metric 🙂
In the short time that I’ve used this device, it has proven to be exactly what I wanted. Acceptable screen quality, excellent construction, and snappy performance (cold boot ups are a bit slow but once it’s on, it runs with no discernible lag). At one quarter the price of an iPad Mini, there really isn’t much to complain about here.

I had the choice of a Samsung A7 (the only model available in stores in the US, as of June 2024), which after playing around with, I found to be slow and sluggish… Found this model online from a vendor in UAE, with a price point on par with the A7 in the US, so I decided to buy it…
Works very well, almost as fast as a Samsung Tab S6 that it was replacing… It does everything I want it to do, from watch video to streaming content… The setup menu was locked to the Levante (SW Asia) region, but I was still able to set the tablet up in (US) English, and I don’t see any difference in operation or major app differences between US tablets and ones intended for other regions…
For a small tablet, the sound isn’t bad, and although a little tinny, can push out sufficient volume. Video quality is fine for HD, although I have not tried playing a 4K movie yet (my guess is there would be distortive framing or sluggishness if I did)…
Overall, for the price point, its a handy sized tablet with good functionality… Finding a case is a bit of a pain in the US, but found a good aftermarket option on Amazon…

When I installed the international version, I chose the language first, and then the region I wanted.
After the installation was complete, I chose a different language and region without any problems.
This tablet has no problems at all. Good item.

I’ve been looking for a budget tablet to use flying my drone. I thought this might be the one so I bought it. “International” version is not explained nor is how it affects the set-up process. When it arrived and I turned it on it asked me for the language preference and English-United States was an option. So far so good. Next was Region and the only options were areas of the world from eastern Europe through Africa. There was no way to bypass this so I selected South Africa. Next I tried to set-up my wifi to download my drone app. It refused to connect to my wifi. I kept getting a password incorrect message which is nonsense. I set the router and every device in the house up to that very password and this “international” tablet won’t connect. After a dozen tries I unplugged, repackaged and reboxed the tablet then filed a return. Lesson learned. Notice to Amazon. If you’re going to sell something in the US make sure it works in the US. If you’re going to sell an item made to work in another country but can be made to work here, include instructions on how to make it work.

I ordered a A7 Lite from another retailer on sale (WM) and it just wasn’t doing the job. After watching a few YouTube videos I decided I didn’t want to spend the extra bucks for the A9. Until I found this. Yes it’s Middle East, and after setting it up I can’t tell. NO ISSUES with set up. I picked UAE and that was it. Price was great, this tablet is faster, has more space, NO COMPLAINTS!! Fit and finish is up to par with my S8+, plays all my favorite games no issues, the A7 lite couldn’t. It just basically works very well. Speakers sound better than what the reviews claim. The face recognition works about 75% of the time. But I have a beard and long hair… My MS Surface gets it everytime…. Not a deal breaker. Anyway, So for a few dollars more you get 100% more storage, 25% more ram, and a better CPU and GPU… Win win in my book!! Fast, nice screen, sounds good, nice build quality… HAPPY

The tablet’s design is aesthetically pleasing, and the screen quality is satisfactory. In comparison to the Nokia T10, this tablet (A9) exudes a more refined and premium appearance. The speakers provide a robust audio experience, while the screen’s clarity and vibrancy enhance the enjoyment of movies, reading, and music listening. It is important to note that the performance may exhibit occasional lags, which is not uncommon for tablets within this price range. However, when compared to the Nokia T10, this tablet demonstrates a significant improvement in overall quality and performance.
Update 4/1/2024
The tablet received a software update with one UI 6.0. the tablet feels a lot smoother and faster, not the it felt slow for me before but you can notice the difference.

I got the tablet for my mother who is 85 years old. It is easy to use and she loves it. She plays on it every single evening
The one downfall is that during set up the was not a country of origin for the United States. I picked another one and it appears to be working just fine!

It’s a great tablet for the price, I’ve bought it to store and read my books. YouTube runs smooth and netflix as well even tho resolution is set to auto at 480p. Increasing to 720p or even 1080p does slow down the response rate but an acceptable level.
The main reason I left this review was to show that even it’s an international model that only let’s you select middle eastern countries, if you have an android (not sure if it works with iphone) you can set the region to your current on initial setup. Select any region at start screen, then transfer your data from your phone, and the only thing you have to transfer is settings. AND VOILA!!!!!

The tablet is great, I was supposed to receive a 15 W USB-C charger instead I was given a 10 W USB A charger, sort of like fitting a Square peg into a round hole. Then I spent the last 30 minutes wasting my time talking to Amazon customer service reps who wouldn’t help
none of them wanted to help, one of them sent me a weird link to a Canada link of a USB A to USB C cable which then changed my location to Canada, crashing the app, then I couldn’t access customer service again because it was showing up in wrong country. I was finally able to contact somebody, but he said that there’s nothing they can do in Canada for me and they wouldn’t turn me over to someone else, so I had to delete the app and start over, or the story is, the deal is a little bit strange,
It forced me to pretend that I was in the UAE and the language on the screen was Arabic, which makes no sense, I was able to make it English, I wish it was stated as such in the information, the information related to this tablet is very lacking
Update: was able to finally talk to a nice lady Sharon who was able to give me a credit to a Samsung 15w usb c charger. The previous reps I communicated with I clearly stated that fact and they kept asking if I needed a different tablet to use the charger I got, or offered a completely different charger and one of them said there was nothing they could do. Sharon was different. She could read what I said and knew the solution immediately.
The tablet is good but it’s actually an international edition. It’s barely mentioned anywhere on the advertisement. I’m surprised you can purchase this model in this country. So I just chose South Africa because it was the closest thing to America that was available. This tablet will never be connected to an LTE service so it’s not big deal. Android 14 is great. It’s snappy and responsive. Of all the tablets out there this was the best deal. And there’s more choices for tablet cases and screen protectors than other cheap tablets out there.

The Samsung installed Service Provider Software Version (CSC code) is meant for use in the UAE, the United Arab Emirites, as designated by the XSG naming convention.
If you’re planning on using this tablet in the United States or EU, you may find that some software features are missing or broken on this device.
The only way to change this setting is through the use of additional software or custom ROMs, and requires a bit of technical knowledge to complete.
If you live in Saudi Arabia, this tablet seems pretty good. If you live in the United States, as I do, you may find yourself returning it.
