As others have noted, the magnet was not installed properly at the factory. Fairly easy to correct by inserting a smaller socket into the end of the 5/8 plug socket and tapping the magnet in via hammer at medium force. Just do a step at a time until the magnet is seated to the proper depth for your plugs.

I bought this to swap plugs on my Ford Edge and the magnetic feature was fantastic. Solid construction and very functional.

This tool is needed when you’re changing spark plugs on a Ram Himy. It worked great

I changed the plugs on my 3rd gen Tacoma for the first time using this. Most write-ups recommend removing air intake components, loosening several mounts, and disconnecting sensors to access the plugs. With this tool and a basic socket extension, I only had to disconnect one sensor and loosen one mount. A couple of the plugs were tucked away but this provided enough flexibilty that I could access them easily while still maintaining a firm magnetic grip on the plug. It’s worth every cent. Buy it.

Modern engines have their spark plugs buried deep in the cylinder heads. My old spark plug sockets had a rubber ring that held the plug in place, or at least in theory. It seemed that the ring would either be too grippy or too loose, and trying to get the socket out after installing the plug would often end up with the socket separating from the extension. NO MORE!!!! This socket has a strong magnet that keeps the plug in place perfectly. The swivel was a huge help when I changed the plugs in my mid engine Porsche where the access to the front cylinders was limited. The attached extension won’t come loose in the plug hole. I’m going to get this in other common plug sizes for future use. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

This socket won’t see much use so it’ll probably last my lifetime. The quality is decent, not great, but the design works perfect for the spark plug R&R on a Ram with the 5.7 Hemi. The rear plugs are not easy to access but this socket with a permanent swiveling extension makes it SOOOO much easier. With 16 plugs to do every 100,000 miles the quality of this tool isn’t as important as the fitment in tight places. Don’t buy it for the brand name either as GearWrench quality appears to be on the downhill slide. But for a 1-trick pony this is about as good as it gets for spark plug work on this particular truck.

Changing spark plugs on a V8 engine, especially in a tight space like the E92 M3, can be a challenging task. However, the 3/8″ Drive 6 Pt. 5/8″ x 6″ Magnetic Swivel Spark Plug Socket proved to be a game-changer during my recent spark plug replacement, particularly for the rear cylinders.

The standout feature of this socket is its ingenious magnetic swivel design. The magnetic feature holds the spark plug securely in place, preventing any accidental drops and ensuring a smooth removal and installation process. The swivel mechanism allows for a flexible range of motion, making it an absolute lifesaver when dealing with hard-to-reach areas, such as the rear cylinders in a V8 engine.

The 3/8″ drive size was a perfect fit, and the 6-point design provided a secure grip on the spark plugs. This design minimizes the risk of rounding off the plug edges, offering both confidence and peace of mind during the removal and installation process. The robust build quality of the socket instills confidence in its ability to handle the torque required for spark plug changes.

The 5/8″ size is a common fit for many spark plugs, including those in the E92 M3. This versatility makes the socket a valuable addition to any toolbox, catering to a wide range of applications. The 6-inch length of the socket provided the perfect balance between reach and control, allowing me to navigate the intricacies of the engine bay effortlessly.

This is a most useful tool. It makes it easy to unscrew a spark plug and remove it from the engine. Much better than the old ones with the rubber inside. The magnet is a perfect strength and the swivel really helps reach difficult places.

I would have loved to have had this when I was younger. makes changing hard to reach sparkplugs a breeze! Socket is permanently attached to the extension, so I don’t have to worry about it falling off and staying behind as you take out the extension. Sparkplug is held in place with a magnet and releases easily. Nice swivel action also to make starting the treads a breeze!
Highly recommend even if you only use it once!

I usually work on old V8’s, sixes, and small engines, so I didn’t have the right tool when I recently needed to change plugs in a ‘newer’ car that has the plugs deep in the head and vertical. This tool was invaluable. Smooth operation and a strong magnet.

It is true that the socket does not fit all the way down on the hex part of the plug as other reviewers have mentioned. However, I did not find this to be a problem – it fits far enough to do the job, even on overly tightened plugs.

After Craftsman went chineez, I started looking at alternative brands. Gearwrench and Tekton are what I buy now and both have very good tools
