Every since my family and I rescued a kitten more than three years a go now he has been very picky about the foods he will eat. For about two years he would eat the Purina kitten food but switching him over to cat food proved to be difficult. We tried moving him to a higer quality Purina food the traditional way with a mix of kitten and the new and he picked out his kitten food and would not touch the other. We tried without kitten food and we tried again with different flavors etc.
Wanting to stay in the Purina family of foods we tried this and he ate it with no problem and we were successfully able to switch him to adult food.
The package from Amazon arrived safely, the food was in date and was Ginger (our picky cat) approved, and best part it came to us and I did not have to go out to the store win-win.

Cat Background & Opinion:
I’ve been feeding a stray cat who was starving. He’s not fussy by any means and will eat anything, including pork and chicken bones, dog food, and the actual Styrofoam trays with any taste of meat on them from the trash. I’ve been giving him Friskies canned food, which he loves and shows up for daily instead of rummaging through my trash can. His 2 – 3 can a meal diet was getting to be high in cost and I wanted to try something that might last longer than the canned food so purchased this dry food. I usually give him a plate with 2 cans of food and a few table scraps and he’ll sometimes hang out for another can. Today I gave him 1 can of wet food, 1/2 cup of dry food, and a few chicken scraps. His first choice was the wet food, then he ate the chicken scraps, then he ate the dry food. I guess he prefers the wet, but he ate it until he was full and left just a spoonful of dry food on the plate.
Pros:
1. It will last awhile longer than canned food.
2. The size of the pieces is easy for the cat to eat. He barely had to chew them.
3. The cost is affordable.
Cons:
1. It has food dyes. The colors made me wrinkle my nose with disgust when I looked at it. It’s not candy. I don’t think the cat cares what color it is. I don’t feel food dye is healthy. I don’t eat anything with food dye and I prefer not to feed it to a cat.
2. The primary ingredient is corn and corn gluten closely followed by soybean meal and wheat flour. Much of the ‘meat’ is meat flavoring, not actual meat. While it’s better than starving, but not healthy ingredients at all. These are all common problem foods. I’d prefer not to feed them to animals. The cat I feed ate brown rice with chicken broth drizzled over the top before purchased cat food and that is so much healthier than corn, wheat, and soy.
3. It has artificial flavors.
4. Being bagged, it may attract bugs. It would prefer it came in a resealable jar.
All in all, in the absence of human grade meat I’d rather it be loaded with meat by products. I think we’ll stick with the canned food as the cat’s primary food source.
